There is a small size metal rim facing outwards and away from the roof fascia. A typical metal roof overhang may be 2 to 4 inches or even less. Drip edge is a metal flashing that tends to overhang the sides of a roof. A cantilever is a rigid structural element anchored only at one end to a vertical support from which it is protruding.

It has the main function of controlling water flow on the roof which has many implications. Using a cantilever means you don t need external bracing. Most metal roofing is installed with little or no overhang either on eaves or gable edges because it tends to bend under heavy weights. Cantilevered structures are popular for homes with balconies.

If there are gutters installed on the eaves the eave flashing should be installed to overhang the lip of the gutter by about 1 2 inch.
